A coming of age movie that manages to skip most, if not all, the movie tropes such as the main character is not a bad student, trying to lose his virginity or competing to overcome prevailing stereotypes. Goats is very realistic–it is about how to navigate the people in your life who love you the most yet put you in the most emotional and literal danger without staying in your relegated role of who they think you are supposed to be. Being true to yourself, each relationship & somehow keeping those relationships independent and interconnected without permitting the gravity of one relationship to pull the focus of another.
