It’s magnificent & a classic for a reason! You already know every song in this production. Unfortunately, the gender politics of Funny Girl, based on a real life story of a famous comedienne, are messed up. She starts as a trail blazing, career focused woman who calls the hot guy on his BS, i.e. not simply satisfied that a hot guy is interested, but demands respect & that he stop being ambiguous–is she a fun past time or does he love her? She accepts him for what he is: a gambler–big mistake, but hers to make. After the intermission of Funny Girl, the implicit judgment is that if she wasn’t so successful, he would not be on a losing streak and enter shady business deals. Um! Excuse me! She accepted him for being a complete gambling addict, but he isn’t accepting her for what she was before they married: a successful survivor and the only person between him & starvation. I NEED to see the sequel!
