Raging Bull is a masterpiece. De Niro at his best & so immersed in the character that he committed his body to the role. His weight fluctuates dramatically in the movie. Best use of black & white film photography since color film was invented. The relationships between LaMotta and his wife and LaMotta and his brother are so unflinching, tender & desperate, I can see why Pesci & De Niro have remained close to this day. I don’t get the Biblical quote at the end of the film & how it fits in with the movie, unless it is a dedication of the entire movie from Scorsese to a professor. I probably didn’t understand a lot of what makes this film a classic, but it was a beauty to watch even while focusing on many ugly things.
