Comedy, Drama

Director: Steve Buscemi

Release Date: October 11, 1996

Where to Watch

Now I know where Lena Dunham got her excellent schtick of creating characters that are unlikeable, but that you still care about, never attain success and still have unresolved fates and issues by the end of the movie, but you don’t mind: Steve Buscemi! Unlike Lena Dunham’s Girls and Tiny Furniture, Steve Buscemi’s Trees Lounge has characters that are older, have no safety net and are more paralyzed and self-destructive. It is worth watching for the parade of excellent actors alone! Even everyone’s favorite meat inspector from The Walking Dead appears briefly! Even in this fallen world of desperation, paralysis and personal disaster, there is love amidst the frustration and hostility. A must see if you don’t mind the epic sadness and loss of innocence and hope.
