First, I’m issuing a trigger warning for anyone involved in a bombing-terrorist or otherwise. It won’t hit you as hard as The Dark Knight Rises, but it is there and considering where it occurs, it was slightly cringeworthy, which means that I may be getting too old to enjoy these kind of movies. Second, I enjoyed Star Trek Into Darkness, but I’m not going to be thinking or talking about it in a few days other than to say that though I do not find Benedict Cumberbatch visually pleasing, I will be happily recalling that voice & his performance. Third, I wonder if we like this franchise because all the actors do great impressions of their predecessors and the film hits enough great nostalgic notes to keep us happy while essentially being an interchangeable action procedure with no long term consequences and not a true Roddenberry creation yearning to reach utopia. As always, the most compelling character other than Cumberbatch (as he silently & wonderfully judges everyone) is Spock Lite. For those of you familiar with casting choices, you’ll spot the other villain a mile away.
