My Architect: A Son’s Journey

Where to Watch

I wanted to see this documentary when it was first released in theaters, and I have no idea why it took me so long to watch My Architect: A Son’s Journey. First, it is beautiful. Second, the story is devastating as people go on about how magnificent Louis Kahn is to the son, who is the director, that Louis Kahn failed or try to console the son by saying that his amazing work should make up for how little he thought of his family. Third, it doesn’t diminish Kahn’s greatness or minimize his personal failings. Occasionally there were transition issues when the director decides to keep conversations with random people about his dad, but these drawbacks are so few and far in between that I can forgive them, especially considering that he is filming such a personal story (one aunt tells him that his uncle wanted his mom to abort him–AWKWARD). A must see!
