Somewhere in Time is all set up and no pay off, but this movie was probably adored because of the beauty of each scene-the past feels like an impressionist painting come to life– and the hotness of the leads: Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. Reeve shows real urgency and gives the early narrative its momentum, but once in the past, the momentum stops. Unfortunately when the playwright literally breaks the rules of time or becomes delusional to meet the object of his obsession, the actual romance falls flat except they are hot. Give me Love Is Strange for a real love story.
