As a child of the Cold War, my memories are quite fond of this movie, but rewatching Red Dawn was a serious mistake & now it seems woefully unrealistic from soup to nuts. How did America regain control of the land because of a group of kids who died off one by one? Wow, I expected anti-Soviet sentiment, but not the anti-Spanish speaking element since Mexican & other South American forces participated in the invasion. I found myself wondering what about this time period, the 80s, made Americans yearn for a simple overt battle on US soil, the idea of ever present impending doom or apocalypse and extremes of survival & how does this idea prevail today. Honestly though Americans could handle an invasion with sheer weaponry, I highly doubt that we would have the physical stamina to hoof it to the mountains since most people don’t even walk down the street. You wouldn’t even need to invade-just stop people’s internet, cable or access to fast food & most would probably surrender willingly. In our imagination, we are unyielding patriots ready to face all enemies of freedom, but in reality, we cannot resist our own desires for comfort & amusement.
