Protocols of Zion

Documentary

Director: Marc Levin

Release Date: November 23, 2005

Where to Watch

Despite promising premise of exploring anti-Semitism today and tracing its antecedents, ultimately Protocols of Zion fails from lack of organization & giving too much air time to racist nuts & sensational moments without immediately or devoting more time to debunking the lies. Disappointing. Marc Levin should have looked to someone other than himself to be the voice of reason. It’s not about you. Wannabe Michael Moore. A man featured in Trembling Before G-d was in the movie… On a side note, I did have a problem with the juxtaposition & equating of random assortment of Christians–some nuts like Haggard and more mainstream like Grace Church congregation–and using them as an example of anti-Semitism because of theological differences. I understand that he feels threatened that Christians believe that Jesus is the only way thus he feels like if he doesn’t convert, either his destination after death or his very identity is being threatened, but that is true of all faiths. If you don’t do x, then y will happen & I don’t think that is Christian specific. I do understand that some religions are more inclusive & general, but the majority……However if believing in something leads to persecution & hatred, all bets are off. I DO think that Marc Levin really wanted to make a documentary about his family, but didn’t think that he could get funding for it so squeezed 2 stories together. He should still do a documentary about his family because he obviously loves his dad. On a scary note, there are some startling Anti-Semitic reviews on Netflix & will spend some time flagging them as inappropriate!
