Where to Watch

I couldn’t stop myself from comparing this movie anthology to its predecessor, Paris, Je T’Aime, which I loved. Maybe the problem is that I love NYC & most of the stories didn’t truly feel like my NY whereas I have no experience with Paris. Only actors who felt like real NYers were Cloris Leachman, Eli Wallach & James Caan. There were many great performances (go, Maggie Q, always reliable Chris Cooper, Julie Christie and John Hurt, along with a few that are not household names like Irrfan Khan, Ugur Yucel, Qi Shu….even Shia Le Boeuf did a transcendent job-that’s the actor that the kid from Holes should be), but I felt like it wasn’t necessary for the stories to be interconnected & often strained suspension of disbelief. Also never begin with your weakest actors: Andy Garcia, Hayden Christensen & Bradley Cooper (sorry folks, I keep thinking of him as that guy from Alias). Also it was overtly sexual, but not sexy. New York, I Love You felt clinical & not necessarily as passionate & joyful as its counterpart.
