Kissing Jessica Stein basically uses sexuality (in this case, homosexuality or bisexuality) as the magical Negro that sets a single woman free to pursue her risky career choice-artsy fartsy–& loosen up to meet Mr. Right. It is a fairy tale world where everyone is patiently accepting & sexuality is seen as purely a choice, which some people may think trivializes the issues facing people who do or don’t agree. Fortunately the actors are really likable & has a New York feel so not unbearable to watch, but not as radical as it purports to be in advertising (as a coming out story or love knows no boundaries). Just go straight to your average rom com because it is less exploitive.
