Remember when you were watching LORs & you thought, “I wish this was cuter-more songs, woodland creatures, dwarf antics, oh forget it, just a lot of antics.” Neither do I. LORs by focus group. I’m going to watch the next two Hobbit movies, but I will do so with arms crossed and seething. Best parts of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey are when they heavily reference LORs otherwise a bloated grab for the money in your pocket. Like The Adventures of Tin Tin, Jackson hits the wrong note by predominantly making the theme about adventure instead of fighting for friends who don’t have a home or a place where they belong-which would have added much needed gravity that LORs had and may have unwittingly had universal political implications to make it classic. If Ewoks suddenly appear, I’m walking out.
