French New Wave meets mumblecore meets the soul of the Hollywood Musical. Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench has a deep sense of nostalgia & living in the past–both the good (the music & narrative) and the bad (inability to move forward in relationships) elements. There were some pacing issues. As a viewer who came into the movie not knowing what to expect, it took me some time to get my equilibrium & understand what the rules of this film are, but once I accepted it, I embraced it & look forward to more films from this director.
