Can we stop making movies like Traffic? Pretty please. At least, Syriana had a less contrived pretext. Instead of character development, Babel uses ethnic broad brush strokes-Moroccan goat herders who like looking at their naked sisters, Japanese school girls traipsing around without panties or naked for the second half of the movie or illegal Mexicans caring for your kids & carrying them across the border drunkenly and ending up in the desert. If only the sweet American couple could have stayed home where it is safe, then none of this tragedy would ensue. See how we’re all connected! See! Just because you shoot in a number of international locations and use subtitles does not mean that you have an international perspective! Skip this pretentious crap and actually watch a film that comes from Japan or Morocco. If you really want to show how everything is connected, you could just as easily use a t-shirt or a toy or an American dollar without all the sensationalism and teeth gnashing generated by this film. Then it would have felt more organic.
