Where to Watch

Even though this movie has three hours of Daniel Craig, I wasn’t into The Ice House. His accent sounded so distressingly fake that I found it hard to focus on anything else. Also The Ice House is divided into 2 parts. The first part is so purposely chock full of stereotypes (the women are lesbians, witches, up to no good; the police are drunken, leering harassers who will ruin everything they touch; the local people can break out into a mob at any second) & then the second part is devoted to subverting some of the stereotypes that weren’t that convincing in the first place. The film would have been better if they had toned down the misleading plot devices and devoted more time to the actual intersecting mysteries that are hurriedly solved in the second part. I read reviews that said the movie was amazing, but I think that you have to buy into the cartoonishly bad moments of first part to be surprised that all the people who seemed horrible are actually people who were hurt by life and defensive. There was actually a line about the police officer not wanting to shake hands with one of the alleged lesbians because didn’t want to be accused of sticking a finger in a dyke. Seriously?!? No one would say that & if they did, the eye rolling would shake the earth. Then that police officer & that woman fall in love. Just no. Stop. Too ridiculous.
