I think that Altered’s creators-especially whoever came up with the story and makeup artists–were brilliant, but the execution was off in a dramatic, off-putting away. I normally don’t like gore, but there were some spectacular and inventive gross out pivotal moments that I truly appreciated. Also I think that the writers were going for an alien as child sexual abuse metaphor that was promising, but never came to fruition and got in the way of a few promising plot points that are abandoned in favor of a speedy resolution. Ultimately the acting and dialogue were so off-putting that you begin to root for the alien, which was less alien and more a mix of otherworldly Michael Myers meets Freddy Krueger, killer who refuses to stop terrorizing the same individuals.
