Still Star-Crossed is an ABC TV drama series based on a book, which I don’t have any interest in reading. It starts soon after Romeo and Juliet got married and follows the feuding Montagues and Capulets. The most distinctive part of the show is the casting, which is inexplicably multicultural. If you have ever watched a TV show, you will be able to spot the future pairing instantly and the obligatory love triangle. There is even a conspiracy that explains why the families are never at peace.
The only reason that I watched Still Star-Crossed was when I realized that Anthony Stewart Head was in the ABC TV drama series. Grant Bowler was a happy accident. If the series were just the two sniping at each other, I probably would have enjoyed it more. Torrance Combs from Reign is a supporting actor so I guess that period dramas are his bread and butter even though he is Canadian.
Everyone does a good job with the material that they were given. I was never into the Shakespearian tragedy so I never wondered what happened, and honestly the fact that they did not get their crap together and never would probably had the opposite of the intended effect on me. The Cinderella twist was where I stumbled-for real, you did that to your nieces! I suppose that I never fully bought Lady Capulet as a character, no disrespect intended to Zuleikha Robinson, and a lot of the narrative depends on her motivations.
Still Star-Crossed is a pretty, period anachronistic mediocrity. It got cancelled after one season so if you have five hours with absolutely nothing else to do, then check it out otherwise only hard core Shondaland production followers will consider this must see TV, and her role was restricted to executive producer.
