In my ongoing quest to accidentally depress myself, I watched this miniseries because of my love for Lennie James (Jericho, The Walking Dead, Snatch) and was subjected to four separate yet connected maudlin stories. Run aimed for gritty & somehow missed the mark–this is not The Wire. Great actors, but the conceit of the connection made the actual stories seem a bit contrived & rushed despite the characters long mournful gazing in the distance over a grey urban landscape. Most of the stories do not end happily, but they also don’t end disastrously so that made the denouement of the final story seem more ridiculous. Not a must see, but still better than the average American show.
