Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King is an anthology tv series that reminds me of Saturday Night Live because each episode goes a bit too long and falls flat. Amazing cast, good stories, but solidly mediocre execution except for The End of the Whole Mess because hard to mess up an apocalypse and Autopsy Room Four because it is a pretty faithful adaptation. There were two that deserve a remake because had some solidly scary potential: Crouch End and The Road Virus Heads North. Battleground and You Know They Got a Hell of a Band start out promising, but if you start asking questions or thinking about it, each seems silly. The Fifth Quarter became convoluted and absurd as it unfolded. Adapting King’s work seems to be a challenge for most. Things that can be overlooked or seem chilling on the page appear as dated or tone deaf when brought to life, and yet, I keep watching.
