Though most compare it to Rear Window, which actually was released subsequent to this film, I immediately thought Witness to Murder had more in common with Gaslight and initially had a great take on gender roles in law-what is considered aberrant or proof, but as the plot unfolded, it descended into a ridiculous, unbelievable denouement. Barbara Stanwyck deserved better, but a “girl” has to pay the bills.
