Where to Watch

I suspect that Whitewash ended up in my queue because Whitewash stars Thomas Haden Church. I have been a Church fan since Will and Grace, I mean Ned and Stacey.
Whitewash is about an alcoholic widower who retreats into the wintry wilderness of Quebec after an accident (?). As Whitewash unfolds, it parallels his feeble attempts at survival with the events that led up to the accident. Church’s character is an affable, well-meaning screwup whose downward spiral started before any of the events illustrated in Whitewash. Once his wife died, his attempts to remain tethered to life, connect to others and make effective decisions deteriorated. Whitewash chronicles how each step further isolates him and leads to self-condemnation.
Whitewash was not the movie for me. I found the whole thing frustrating instead of intriguing, and I think the reverse is key for enjoying Whitewash’s character study.
