Where to Watch

V/H/S: Viral fails the franchise because it fails at sustaining or abandons the found footage genre. The overarching or frame narrative is unfocused, contains numerous horror elements as opposed to a cohesive story and ultimately ups the ante for the franchise by moving it from V/H/S to the internet, but makes little to no sense since not enough details are provided and leaves the viewer to fill in the gaping holes if we cared to, which I didn’t. The V/H/S franchise can be called many things, but lazy storytelling was not one of those things until now. Did Damon Lindehof consult on the overarching story? V/H/S: Viral’s production values improved and two of the three shorter segments were interesting, but would have been better if featured in a tv horror anthology show like The Hunger as opposed to a movie: Dante the Magician and Parallel Monsters. Bonestorm includes the worst elements of V/H/S (bro culture) and V/H/S/2 (stories that have no where to go). There was supposed to be one segment, Gorgeous Vortex, that was cut from V/H/S: Viral, which is featured on the DVD if you play until the end credits, which reads more like a music video or Calvin Klein ad than a V/H/S feature. If you like the V/H/S franchise, skip V/H/S: Viral, but if you enjoy the tv anthology horror show, The Hunger, you will enjoy it. V/H/S: Viral disappointed me with its failed potential.
