Where to Watch

Initially To Be and To Have begins with so little fanfare that you may wonder if you have the patience and concentration necessary to watch the entire movie, but if you sit still, have no distractions & allow yourself to be immersed in the natural rhythm of this movie, it is quite beautiful and reveals how teaching used to be. It is a moving portrait of a sensitive, soft spoken teacher who gently guides his students through all challenges: hygiene, human interactions, personal responsibility, cooking and of course, math and grammar. It was also mesmerizing to see how involved the families are in their children’s lives. Unfortunately, I read what happened after this movie became popular and apparently observing does affect the observed.
