Where to Watch

Full disclosure: I used to (?) have a slight crush on Robert Patrick because he is a great actor who just needs to pay his mortgage & raise his kids, but gets cast in some awful movies & this one isn’t. When I initially saw the movie, I thought it was an incredible parallel love story, but rewatching it many years later, The Only Thrill feels like a Lifetime movie with a really good cast & there is no chemistry between the leads. Honestly it felt like Diane Keaton accidentally ended up outside of a Woody Allen movie. The time shifts are a bit deliberate & clunky. The characters love movies, but didn’t feel real to me despite being a theme. There are so many plot holes & I can’t help but wonder how I missed it the first time: how did the kids not spend anytime together in such a small town except one time even though their parents are close, why don’t we ever see the parents raise the kids, what happened to Sam Shepard’s wife.
