For a comic book movie, it is good. The best, most magnificent comic book movie will always be X-Men–filled with pathos & multi-layered meaning, but this was good & uncomplicated. I saw it on DVD & am currently watching the Avengers cartoon series in preparation for Joss Whedon’s Avengers, but I loved it because I knew more about Marvel’s Thor, the cartoon character, coming in than I did when the live action movie came out in the summer & thought they did an OK job with Thor–in the cartoon he is not a bit arrogant. They did an excellent job making that world come alive, but if you’re not familiar with it, it could take some adjustment. It is a great summer action movie with Shakesperean proclivities/atmosphere, but other than Loki, you won’t find anything too deep here. We get a glimpse of Hawkeye played by Jeremy Renner. Strictly PG-13 fare–the action scenes are not bloody, not even a hint of sexual situations & I’m sure no cursing. Hit my nostalgia button for Saturday morning cartoons when we were kids. Also I’m psyched to soon hear in the upcoming Avengers movie, “Avengers assemble!” I love all things Whedon & I think that Kenneth Branagh did what he was supposed to do: show Thor’s origin story. It is not as much fun as Iron Man, but still a strong link in the chain. Next I’ll see Captain America on DVD. Charlotte, why didn’t you like it? I’m assuming for the same reasons that I did, but I could be wrong. The worst film ever for me will always be Ang Lee’s Incredible Hulk.
