I don’t care if you like John Cusack, Edgar Allan Poe, period thrillers. If you are a living, breathing human being, The Raven is a waste of your time. It is not good-not even a little bit. If The Raven did not take itself so seriously, it could be the plot of a CW series.
Poe, under suspicion of being a murderer after a string of unsolved murders seem inspired by his work, pairs up with a hot cop to solve the crime and save his girlfriend. The action sequences are bonkers: the killer leaps off a roof, edging bullets to kill a cop, but Poe and the girlfriend’s father emerge mostly unscathed in their encounters with the villain. And why do the cops stop suspecting Poe? Because someone says that he is harmless. OK. Whatever. And if he is a drunk, penniless author who isn’t actually writing, how did he get a girlfriend? I was mostly concerned with the fate of the titular character. Fly, my pretty, fly!
