For me, The DUFF committed one cardinal sin: never get rid of the protagonists’ friends except near the end of the film and the rift should be as brief as possible. It made me like the protagonist a little less than I normally would. I love Mae Whitman from Parenthood fame. I call BS: how could a teen film buff NOT know This is Spinal Tap? No. Breaking news: getting a makeover from a straight guy is now a thing according to The DUFF and previews for Supergirl. Boo to Allison Janney only making brief appearances in supporting roles. I did enjoy the brief illustrations of what was going on in her head, but I wanted more of that. The DUFF was an admirable piece of fluff, but nothing super memorable or amazing. Not a must see, but The DUFF could work as a mood lightener or perfect background tv.
