Is this movie a metaphor for mixed race adoption? If so, then Stuart Little is extra disturbing because the implicit message is that they are so ill-suited to nurture Stuart that they nearly kill him in every scene. “Mr. and Mrs. Little, we try to discourage couples from adopting outside of their own… species. It rarely works out.” The mice can’t catch a cab. In one scene, Stuart stands next to a baseball card of Jackie Robinson. The films makes it impossible for him to live as a mouse/the family makes no special measures accommodations to protect him considering his vulnerable nature AND be completely a part of the family. He has to choose. On a species note, I felt bad for the family cat who understandably felt ticked that one animal was privileged & accepted without question as part of the family, but despite being there longer, he was never treated as well psychologically, but probably benefits because he never nearly gets killed from their bonding moments. I still love Geena Davis & will watch her in anything.
