If Somewhere Between was a fictional movie, the audience would complain that many of the events could never happen, but it is a documentary, and it happened! Somewhere Between tells the story of four teenage girls who were born in China, adopted by Americans and are coming to terms with their past, their cultural and gender identity and their future. It is also about how these adoptions are still occurring. When these teenagers return to China and are heartily welcomed by the people there, initially I thought that they were putting on an act to get cameras’ attention or for money, but that wasn’t the case. They equally seemed to want to seal the hole left by these adoptions and yet, they are still occurring. Heartbreaking and a must see!
