Careening careless people with no boundaries: sympathetically slam your head against a brick wall, break a window to coo at a dog, tenderly hold a baby with green mohawk hair. Quills preaches, Sid and Nancy practices-filled with life & still unabashedly ruined in all its sordid reality. No deeply good people beneath the soiled surface or hypocrites. People & art without the pretense & no glorification of the gutter. Brilliant! Tell Quills, no such thing as healthy anarchy. Final scene is perfect! Bear in mind, I’m not approving the behavior depicted in the film, but the fearlessness of those who sought to depict two people’s reality unflinchingly & with no lofty idealistic agenda, but still with love.
