Sex Is Comedy feels more semi-autobiographical and theoretical regarding gender roles, filmmaking and sex. Lots of nudity because deals with a female director and her struggle to successfully film a sex scene. Catherine Breillat’s films are usually disturbing, but this film may be her most palatable because of its explicit intellectual approach. Of course, there is nudity, but I was more riveted about the struggle over control & who really has it when a film is being made. Also deals with issues of being vulnerable. Not for everyone, but if you like filmmaking & theory, worth a shot. A must see if you saw Fat Girl. Eliminate yourself from the audience if you don’t like subtitles.
