Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is torn between being a comedy, a rom com and a poignant French-like movie mediating on the transitory beauty of life and the inevitability of death. If you say apocalypse, I’ll be there even if it involves an asteroid, and the movie does address all the expected ways that people would cope with the end of the world. I applaud the movie for openly acknowledging the age disparity. The movie does not always succeed at walking the tightrope between cliche and meditative beauty, but the last scene tipped my vote towards the latter when it sticks the landing. Steve Carrell acts with his hair. I adore Rob Corddry and Connie Britton so it helped keep the comedy portion fresh.
