Where to Watch

I have a soft spot in my heart for disaster movies, but I usually wait until the movie is available for home viewing and rarely pay money to see it. I wanted epic CGI destruction and the Rock. San Andreas gave me what I wanted, so I’m a happy camper. I also love Carla Gugino from Threshold and Karen Sisco, and as a heterosexual female, it was nice to see her in a movie where she doesn’t randomly have to expose her breasts. All disaster movies have one goal: to reunite a psychologically and physically fractured family, and San Andreas is not different from its predecessors. If anything, the Earth stands in solidarity with their brother, The Rock, in making sure everything works out, but perhaps killing everyone in LA and San Francisco is a bit excessive. What makes the acting amazing in San Andreas is that none of the actors burst out into laughter after saying lines like, “Don’t you quit on me!” They are truly professionals. I was surprised by the random rich guy shade and random appearance of a couple of low-rent British actors, not including Ioan Gruffud, who hides his accent. My nominee for most ungrateful heifer goes to the mother who snatches her child from Paul Giamatti’s hands with neither a thank you or a word of consolation for the death of the person that sacrificed his life for the kid that she ditched to get to more stable ground. If you’re on a budget, skip San Andreas, but if you have money burning a hole in your pocket and love disaster movies or hot multiracial dudes, see it!
