Russian Dolls is not a must see unless you saw L’Auberge Espagnole. A movie about compromise versus ideals & in this film, compromise isn’t always a bad thing. Basically real love with a flawed human being is more beautiful than winning the interest of a super model. Somehow manages to make the main character a man capable of complex feelings with respect to friends and lovers & a complete douche looking for the next beauty to bed without writing him off as a human being. The movie contrasts his journey with the more traditional romantic exploits of a friend who does everything for love and what happens when that love is finally won–what does happily ever after look like. The movie tries to tackle the same concept with respect to career, but largely drops that effort in favor of the romantic angle.
