Revolutionary Road can be summarized thus: you’re not special; your mamma lied. Beautifully shot by American Beauty’s Sam Mendes (God bless him for Skyfall) and perfectly acted by Jack & Rose (Titanic reference). Did we NEED another movie about suburban angst, conformist pressure and the 50s, especially one that felt like a play yet never was. It succeeds at showing the sheer suffocation of the times, particularly for women without neglecting how men were also victims of that era. Michael Shannon is terrific as the physical manifestation of their inner souls and is the only one that makes it feel like life and not a stage production. Not a must see, but an excellent effort.
