Results is far from a perfect movie, but it is delightful, and I highly recommend that you give it a chance. Andrew Bujalski successfully departed from his mumble core roots by casting well known actors in a romantic drama about three emotionally stunted, inexpressive, deeply flawed people trying to articulate and get what they want. Normally I would roll my eyes at the prospect of another film with pretty people, in Results’ case Guy Pearce and Cobie Smulders, unable to broach whatever chasm prevents them from coming together, but because each character is solidly depicted and grounded in reality, Results works. Results’ editing may be more emotionally akin to Eisenstein than conventional filmmaking that spoon feeds the viewer with explanations as to what we just saw, and how we got from x to y so I would give this movie your undivided attention-no multitasking. From the dialogue of fitness speak being converted into romantic parlance to the pairing of music with action, Results is emotionally resonant and joyously awkward. Any movie that casts the brilliant Kevin Corrigan, who is well known for his work in Fringe, Grounded for Life and numerous films, as one of the three leads won me over. Best special appearance ever goes to Anthony Michael Hall as Grigory, a Russian kettle bell master. Hall stole the movie, and I rewatched his scenes with the captions on.
