I’m really sorry that I’ve never seen The Red Shoes on the big screen. Initially I was a bit incredulous by the beginning of the movie–a bunch of young people fighting over seats to a ballet and then a fight over which was more important: the dancing or the music, but as I began to turn off the lights & get carried away by this world, I realized that though I may not consider it one of the greatest movies in the world, I could certainly say it abandoned itself to the concept that art & the passion for art could be important &essential. I loved Lermontov! Of course, I don’t think that love & art are exclusive, but there was something very anti-feminist that the husband who accepted her as a great ballerina made her choose between dance or him, but Lermontov understands that her life was her art & loved his question–whether her husband would do it for her! Inception and Sucker Punch–The Red Shoes shows how you do a story within a story! Brilliant!
