Water everywhere but not a drop to drink. Amazing actors, but without a director with a soul, just standard movie serial killer/thriller fare. Faithful to the book, but most successful movie adaptations of books depart from the book enough to be revered independently while still respected by devoted readers. I can’t help but find it visually lackluster when compared to one of the most captivating & artistically brilliant films ever, Manhunter! Lecter shouldn’t be the point & Red Dragon mainly feels like a reverse engineering of Silence of the Lambs, a prequel, without giving enough seamless weight to each character in this story.
