Where to Watch

I was in the mood for apocalyptic comedies. Netflix suggested Rapture-Palooza because I enjoyed This Is the End. I decided to give Rapture-Palooza a chance despite the low rating because who doesn’t love an old-school Revelation apocalypse comedy. The first half-hour of Rapture-Palooza is terrific, especially thanks to John Michael Higgins, a Christopher Guest alum, and Ana Gasteyer, and there is one Leslie Nielsenesque scene with Anna Kendrick and Craig Robinson near the denouement that literally had me laughing out loud. I normally like Craig Robinson, but once he appeared, Rapture-Palooza became a one-note joke and not a particularly funny one. Anna Kendrick’s character became Anna Kendrick if you’ve ever seen her on a talk show: only as funny as the person that she is working with. Rapture-Palooza definitely has its moments, but it is uneven and spectacularly unfunny when those moments end.
