Where to Watch

Do you love Jane Austen film adaptations? Have you watched every film adaptation of Pride & Prejudice? Do you enjoy zombie movies? Then you must see Pride and Prejudice and Zombies! I read the book, which was humorous, but felt like a Saturday Night Live skit that went on too long. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the film adaptation, perfectly melded the disparate genres and hit most of the right notes. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies wisely takes its world seriously while simultaneously having a sense of humor about taking a rigid status conscious 18th century drama of manners and marriage and throwing a zombie outbreak into the mix. I’m totally here for corsets and combat.
If you are wondering what Game of Thrones actors do when they are not filming the show, you will be thrilled to discover that Cersei and her dad appear in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. For once, Charles Dance does not play a disapproving father and is Daddy Bennet. Cersei plays Darcy’s aunt, who has a new reason to have a foreboding reputation. My only disappointment in Lena Headey’s performance is that the viewers never get to see how she got that reputation, but I remember Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles so I don’t need to see to believe.
I was delighted to see that Jack Huston, who played the wounded, sensitive WWI veteran/assassin in Boardwalk Empire, had a considerable role in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, but I was not surprised about the plot twist.

I was surprised that Darcy switched the pig brains with human brains. I can see him killing the infected, but not fully turned zombies and not making a distinction, but to deliberately turn them into mindless murderers and make more enemies seemed like an irredeemable act that makes no sense when you are already outnumbered. He couldn’t rescue Lydia another way? Trusting Wickham is not an option, but condemning all those people for their association with him made no sense.
