Not as deep as the first two films, nevertheless, Paranormal Activity 3 takes a more traditional approach to get you jumping out of your seat & is scarier. More money for more effects and two creepy children probably helped production values. The real tension lies in the failure of blood family & home. Literally there is no such thing as safety, and it felt like a metaphor of child abuse: one parent in denial & subconsciously rejecting her family but not able to explain why, the step parent is trying to figure out how to react & understand what is going on, but is discounted because of his lack of experience with children, the children are trying to communicate what is happening & forced to keep secrets in order to get help and other outsiders notice something, but fail to rescue them. This one may keep me up tonight.
