I felt very uncomfortable watching this movie because we’re basically entering an injured & vulnerable man’s psyche. On one hand, I normally like finding out more about artists, but this isn’t just art (of course, nothing is, but usually the artist has a few more natural defenses between the artist and the audience), but more consciously his exercise in therapy & his safe place/fantasy world. During the last ten minutes of Marwencol, you get more understanding why he decided to populate his world with droves of beautiful dolls when he is surrounded by a bunch of encouraging & accepting women. I hope that Mark Hogancamp continues to heal.
