Emboldened by my enjoyment of The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology, the time came for me to finally watch Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?, an animated documentary filmed by Michel Gondry. Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy? primarily features Noam Chomsky. It took me FOUR attempts to watch Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?, and I am not including the number of times that I had to rewind certain scenes to understand what message the documentary was trying to convey. Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy? was an excruciatingly, thoroughly unenjoyable and unrewarding viewing experience that only hardcore Chomsky &/or Gondry fans should embark on. Chomsky should not carry any blame. Gondry purposely wanted to make viewers conscious that they were watching a film, not experiencing reality, and understand that Gondry was injecting his meaning in his representation of Chomsky. Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy? is too meta for my taste, and if I was not a completist, I would have given up trying to finish it with no regrets. Gondry also made The Green Hornet with Seth Rogan. I think that it is you, not me, bro. Skip Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy? and just rewatch Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
