If you like Magic Mike, you probably have the hots for Channing Tatum, & I’m including Steven Soderbergh in this equation. Tatum has been in THREE movies made by Soderbergh, the first being Haywire, and last being Side Effects, which I still haven’t seen. I did see Haywire & was literally underwhelmed by his acting & Gina Carino is not an actress. I kept wondering why I was supposed to believe that he could plausibly make her cry with sorrow at their parting. I’m happy that Tatum made it as an “actor,” but come on! This film wants to have its cake and eat it too by ogling at naked guys & living vicariously through the screaming nameless women while being angsty at how empty & unmeaningful that life is. I did love the Marilyn Monroe cameo though. If the film had more of that glorious joy vibe/culture clash moments, I think that I would have enjoyed it more. I’ll stick to documentaries on strippers.
