The first half of The Island is a brilliant, unflinching and emotional resonant example of sci-fi filmmaking/story telling. The second half is a monotonous bloated Michael Bay action sequence, which will require that you use all your reserves of suspension of disbelief. The parts equal an adequate Hollywood film, which is disappointing because it could have been so much better than what it was. The Island successfully creates a future, credible and horrifying world then does everything in its power to smash it to pieces and run as quickly as possible from moral substance. At least all the actors are great and pretty throughout.
