Where to Watch

The Iceman Tapes: Conversations with a Killer reminded me of Unsolved Mysteries complete with interviews from people who investigated the notorious hit man, Richard Kuklinski, and a linear timeline. What distinguishes this documentary: the emphasis that childhood abuse and lack of opportunity/education may equal hit man. In a strange way, Kuklinski’s adult life was a solution to his childhood: he can physically act and financially exploit his desire to lash out against any perceived slight unlike when he was a helpless child while claiming to create a perfect home life untouched by crime that he never had. During this interview, Kuklinski does not reflect deeply on his crimes because he is trying to protect his psyche, but upon thinking of his family, he expresses sorrow. Despite being monstrous, he comes across fairly sympathetic and soft spoken.
