Documentary, Crime

Director: Arthur Ginsberg

Release Date: November 8, 2024

Where to Watch

The Iceman and the Psychiatrist, the third in the HBO series on Richard Kuklinski, is the scariest of them. For the first time, Kuklinsky’s crimes felt real, horrifying and repulsive-perhaps because it is revealed that all his victims weren’t fellow mafia members who knew the risks before interacting with him. Because the interviewer is a man and a skilled psychiatrist, Park Dietz, and probably because more time has passed since Kuklinski was imprisoned, Kuklinski comes across as truly frightening. Kukinski shares how he used to kill animals as a kid, people as a young adult in revenge for perceived slights and then financially to support himself and his family. He reveals (and NOT his wife, who was interviewed in first two documentaries, and said that their home was perfect) that he physically abused his wife. There is even a moment where he admits that Dietz made him angry. At the very end, Dietz offers him the opportunity for Kuklinski to interview him and offers a diagnosis. If you have any interest in Kuklinski, The Iceman and the Psychiatrist is a must see.
