Poster of Howling

Howling

Action, Thriller

Director: Ha Yoo

Release Date: February 16, 2012

Where to Watch

I decided to watch Howling because I already saw Song Kang-ho, who was recently in Snowpiercer, as a vampire in Thirst so why not see him in a werewolf movie. Howling surprised me in three ways. First, Howling is NOT a werewolf movie. Second, Song Kang-ho is not the focus of Howling though he initially appears to be. Third, I ended up rooting for the killer. I wouldn’t mind Howling becoming a pilot for a series called Law and Order: Criminal Intent, South Korean edition. I would watch the series and pair it with Vampire Prosecutor every day. If Howling is considered a B movie in South Korea, give me all their B movies.

SPOILERS

The killer is an adorable wolf dog named Ji-Poong that brutally kills pedophile sex traffickers who hurt his human sister and human father and becomes a literal inspirational spirit animal/savior to the constantly harassed female detective as they stand against everyone to bring the criminals down!!!! JI-POONG IS A FULL FLEDGED MULTI-DIMENSIONAL CHARACTER IN HOWLING, AND I LOVE HIM!!! I was not expecting it and cried inconsolably at the end. I know that it is fiction. I know that it is ridiculous, but it is so ridiculous that it comes right back around to being awesome. I don’t care. It is awesome.
