Where to Watch

Here Alone is a movie about a woman surviving alone in the woods after a pandemic. There are occasional flashbacks to reveal how she got there and learned to survive. She encounters a man and a teenage girl in the woods and decides to help them. While the deliberate pacing may make most viewers run for the hills, if you stick it out, I don’t think that you will regret it although you will not be surprised.
Here Alone is primarily a character study about a single woman in the face of impersonal tragedy and betrayal. Here Alone asks if it is possible to move on. Lucy Waters’ performance is strong enough to propel Here Alone forward. She belongs in the same category as Dan Stevens-these two actors figured out that you hold a viewers’ attention with your eyes, and they never forgot it.
Here Alone had me at apocalypse. Even though I was attracted to Here Alone because a disease that wipes out humankind is sufficient to bring me to the table, I was not surprised when the nature of the epidemic is revealed because the opening scene reminded me of The Girl with All the Gifts. Once you figure out what kind of apocalypse is unfolding in Here Alone, I knew exactly what was going to happen, particularly when more people are introduced, but I still ended up liking it though Here Alone could not get my complete undivided attention in a home viewing setting.
Here Alone may be too apocalyptic for people interested in character studies, and too much of a sedate personal drama for people looking for an apocalyptic movie, but it worked for me. I would not mind watching it again with a little more focus.

Let me be really clear. If you try to kill me, we are not hanging out anymore, and you are not resting your fucking head in my lap. I am not Glenn from The Walking Dead, who is one of the few real Christians during the zombie apocalypse. I love Jesus, but I am not Him, and He will have to do a lot more work in me before I am capable of being that self-sacrificial. Nope. Go hang out with your step-daddy! You wanted to be alone with him. You are not a kid anymore. You are emancipated. Bye! 53%! Call your president!
Also how did Jason die? Did he take an overdose because he knew that he was infected? He did not appear to be killed by one of those things? I miss imdb message boards.
For the record, I think Here Alone is way better than Maggie.
