Where to Watch

Did we need another film depicted as written the gospel of John? Before he made it big in Lost and The 100, Henry Ian Cusick starred in The Visual Bible: The Gospel of John in 2003. My intellectual side would answer no, but after watching The Gospel of John (2014) on Christmas Day 2016 with my mother, I would say yes.
First, The Gospel of John (2014) has a cast that looks less European and more Middle Eastern, which is as it should be (Megyn Kelly, I’m looking at you). Second, The Gospel of John (2014) has the actors speaking in Aramaic, which is again as it should be. The Gospel of John (2014) was filmed in Morocco, which is a tiny bit closer to Israel in spirit than the 2003 version, which was shot in Spain and Canada. The Gospel of John (2014) has a narrator from Supergirl, which tickles me to no end if you are familiar with the Superman constant Jesus shout outs.
The Gospel of John (2014) is great if you basically want a book from the Bible read to you while looking at something, but I found it hard to focus after awhile and found my mind wandering. I know that I am the only person who would ever suggest such a thing, but I would rather that the Bible NOT be read in English, but let the actors act in Aramaic and read subtitles in whatever your native tongue is so you can remain transfixed by the words and the quality of the production.
